On Saturday, January 13, 2018 at approximately 12:07 PM, Milpitas Police officers responded to a residence, in the 1000 block of North Abbott Avenue, for a report of a robbery. The suspect, later identified as Edward Ruiz III, a 35-year-old San Jose resident, brandished a shotgun and gained entry into the residence with a second unknown suspect. Ruiz III physically assaulted the victim, who he had met through an acquaintance, held him against his will and robbed him of his property. Ruiz III and the unknown suspect fled prior to police arrival.
Milpitas Police detectives obtained a felony arrest warrant for Ruiz III for robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, battery, and false imprisonment. With the assistance of the Santa Clara County Regional Auto Theft Task Force, Ruiz III was located at the Wyndham Garden Hotel, located at 399 Silicon Valley Boulevard in San Jose. The San Jose Police Department’s MERGE unit responded to assist in contacting and arresting Ruiz III after a lengthy stand-off. Ruiz III was taken into custody and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for the warrant.
