On Tuesday, January 30th, 2018, at approximately 7:45 P.M., Temple Sheriff’s Station deputies received a call of a suspicious, dark colored Jeep SUV in the 9000 block of Olive Street in Temple City.  As deputies responded to the area, they received an additional call of a residential burglary alarm activation on the same street.

As deputies arrived in the area, they observed the Jeep driving away from the location.  Concerned that this vehicle could have been involved in a possible burglary, deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop.  The vehicle stopped a short distance away and four males fled on foot from the vehicle.  Deputies immediately established a containment of the area.

Additional Temple Station deputies confirmed that a home on Olive Street had been burglarized and ransacked.  Approximately $10,000 in stolen property from the home (jewelry, electronics and miscellaneous personal items) was recovered inside the Jeep SUV.

A search for the suspects commenced and all four were subsequently arrested within the contained area without incident.

All four suspects were documented South Los Angeles gang members.  They were arrested for Residential Burglary and were booked at Temple Station.

LASD Major Crimes Bureau’s Burglary-Robbery Task Force Detectives responded to Temple Sheriff’s Station and are investigating the burglary.  Working closely with Temple Station Deputies and Detectives, Major Crimes Detectives presented the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, on February 1, 2018 for consideration of filing.

All four suspects were charged with Residential Burglary, Resisting Arrest (running and attempting to evade detention), and were additionally charged with Gang Enhancements:

Thirty-five year-old Daryl Jones, resident of Los Angeles, was the driver of the vehicle and had an extensive criminal history including convictions for possession of a firearm possession, DUI, and narcotics offenses.  He is currently being held in custody on $120,000.00 bail.
 
Nineteen year-old Eric Harris, resident of Gardena, has an extensive criminal history which include convictions for robbery and firearm possession.  He is being held in custody on $115,000.00 bail.

Twenty-four year-old Trayveon Taplin, resident of Los Angeles, has an extensive criminal history with prior convictions for residential and commercial burglary, and felony evading.  He is being held in custody on $150,000.00 bail.

Twenty-one year-old Faizon Donnie, resident of Los Angeles, has previously been arrested for several violent crimes, however, has no felony convictions.  He is being held in custody on $115,000.00 bail.

The LASD Major Crimes Bureau’s Burglary-Robbery Task Force (BRTF) investigators believe this crew may be responsible for several other residential burglaries along the 210 Freeway corridor and within the San Gabriel Valley and Foothill areas.  Detectives are collaborating with local investigators from several agencies and stations as this case continues to develop.

The LASD MCB Burglary-Robbery Task Force was formed over eight years ago to combat the ever increasing trend of organized crews who are committing residential burglaries.  Typically known as “Knock-Knock” burglars, these crews, often formed by gang members, utilize high-end luxury vehicles to blend into middle class and affluent neighborhoods where they break into homes and businesses ransacking and stealing valuables such as cash, jewelry, and weapons.   The MCB BRTF works closely in support of all Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Station’s detective bureaus, as well as other Southern California law enforcement agencies.  Residents and business owners are reminded to secure their properties, be aware of suspicious and unusual persons or vehicles, and to alert their local law enforcement immediately if suspicious activity is observed.
