Career Car Thief Surrenders To K-9 Aero After Pursuit

On February 7, 2018, at about 12:17 AM the owner of a car dealership on North St. in the City of Anderson contacted SHASCOM dispatch to report a 2006 Jeep Wrangler had just been stolen from his car lot. The owner indicated he observed the two subjects steal the vehicle via the business's surveillance system. Anderson Police Officers began searching the area for the vehicle, and a BOLO was sent out to allied agencies.

At about 01:20 AM an Anderson Police Officer was in the area of Highway 273 and Ox Yoke Rd. when he observed the stolen Jeep drive past him. The officer got behind the vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop on it, however the driver failed to pull over. A pursuit ensued, traveling from Anderson into Happy Valley.

The pursuit reached speeds in excess of 90 MPH. Due to there being very little to no traffic on the roadways the officers continued to pursue the vehicle.

The vehicle proceeded westbound onto Happy Valley Rd. until it reached Triple S Dr. There the vehicle took a cattle gate head on, causing the gate to become affixed to the front of the Jeep. The driver drove off road with the gate still attached to the vehicle for approximately 1/4 mile.

The Jeep became disabled and came to a stop. The officer ordered the occupants of the vehicle to surrender or K-9 Aero would be deployed to apprehend them. Both subjects complied and were taken into custody without incident.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Timothy Jack Parker, age 32, of Cottonwood. The passenger in the vehicle was identified as Daniel William Harrington, age 34, of Redding.

A records check revealed Parker to be on felony probation out of Shasta County and the State of Nevada for vehicle theft. The records check also showed Harrington to be on felony probation out of Shasta County for burglary, and Siskiyou County for grand theft.

Both Parker and Harrington were arrested and booked into the Shasta County Jail.

Parker was booked on charges of vehicle theft, felony evading a peace officer, evading a peace officer on the wrong side of the roadway, felony vandalism, and a probation violation.

Harrington was booked on charges of vehicle theft and a probation violation.

The vehicle was released to the owner at the scene.
Officers interviewed Parker about his criminal history, and prior vehicle theft cases. Parker stated he has been stealing vehicles since the age of 12, and estimated he had stolen over 500 cars in his lifetime between California and Nevada. Parker stated he often will only keep a vehicle for 24 hours and tries to sell them for a quick financial gain. When asked if Parker knew where he was going down the dirt road, he stated he was just trying to get far enough away from the K-9 so he wouldn't be bit.
