Ongoing school threats investigation.

The Columbia Township Police Department is continuing to investigate an incident that was reported on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 as a possible threat against Columbia Schools involving a minor.

An anonymous caller reported the tip to the State of Michigan through “OKAY2SAY”. This reporting allows anonymity, and reporting can be done via email, phone, website, text, or an app. This tip was submitted at approximately 11:30 P.M. on Wednesday, February 7th.

The caller provided information that a named juvenile had been making threats of shooting up Columbia Schools. The information was relayed from OKAY2SAY/Michigan State Police to Columbia Township Police Department, and upon contact with school administrators, it was learned that the 14 year-old male student was a resident of Somerset Township, but attending Columbia Central.

Officer Ritchey (Michigan State Police assisting) responded to the residence in Somerset Township, and both the juvenile and a parent were contacted. At the conclusion of the investigation at the residence, and taking of evidence, Officer Ritchey escorted the parent and juvenile to Henry Ford Allegiance, where the juvenile was admitted for an evaluation.

Although the potential threat has been eliminated, the investigation continues, and the completed report will be forwarded to the Jackson County Prosecutor’s office for review.

As the investigation continued into the early morning hours, school Administrators cancelled school for the day as a precaution.
