...ROUNDS OF HEAVY RAINFALL WILL INCREASE THE FLOODING THREAT
THROUGH TONIGHT...

.A plume of deep moisture from the Gulf of Mexico will continue
to stream in across the southern Appalachians today and tonight,
allowing for several rounds of moderate to heavy rain showers
across the mountains and foothills ahead of a slowly-approaching
cold front. Flooding may develop along small streams and perhaps
main stem rivers, particularly in the Little Tennessee River and
upper French Broad River basins.

...FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH MONDAY MORNING...

The Flood Watch continues for

* portions of northeast Georgia, North Carolina, and upstate
South Carolina, including the following areas, in northeast
Georgia, Franklin, Habersham, Hart, Rabun, and Stephens. In
North Carolina, Alexander, Avery, Buncombe, Burke Mountains,
Caldwell Mountains, Eastern McDowell, Eastern Polk, Graham,
Greater Burke, Greater Caldwell, Greater Rutherford, Haywood,
Henderson, Macon, Madison, McDowell Mountains, Mitchell,
Northern Jackson, Polk Mountains, Rutherford Mountains,
Southern Jackson, Swain, Transylvania, and Yancey. In upstate
South Carolina, Anderson, Greater Greenville, Greater Oconee,
Greater Pickens, Greenville Mountains, Oconee Mountains,
Pickens Mountains, and Spartanburg.

* through Monday morning

* Abundant moisture from the Gulf of Mexico will continue to
produce several rounds of moderate to heavy rainfall today and
tonight. Rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches, with up to 3 inches
in isolated areas, have already fallen this morning. Additional
rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches will likely fall across much
of the southern Appalachians and the adjacent foothills, with
localized 2 to 3 inch amounts possible in the higher elevations
along the Blue Ridge.

* The moderate to heavy rain will fall on ground still moist from
rainfall earlier in the week. Many rivers and streams are still
running at elevated levels from the recent rainfall, and
flooding will become increasingly likely today.
