ANDERSON PD SEEKS ASSISTANCE WITH VANDALISMS

On 02/11/2018 starting at 8:52am the Anderson Police Department began receiving calls for service in regards to multiple vandalisms in the Pinon Ave. and Bruce St. areas.

Many of the damaged vehicles were discovered by their owners, obviously something that no one wants to wake up to. With the numerous vandalisms in one area, the assigned beat officer began driving the neighborhood and notifying victims that had not yet discovered the damage. There was a total of thirteen vehicles that were found with smashed windshields.

Some of the windshields appeared to have been hit with a sharp object and others possibly with a fist. All of the windshields were broken directly in front of the driver’s seat, making most vehicles unsafe to drive and all illegal to drive. The vandalism was obvious in the sense that the suspect was damaging the vehicle just to be a public nuisance and not to commit a theft. It should be noted that victims were provided with case numbers and permission to drive to a repair facility. The total damage is over $5,000.

A resident was able to catch the suspect on video surveillance and provided a description of the suspect. The suspect is described as a white male adult approximately 5’10”-6’ tall with a large belly. The suspect wearing a dark colored hat, T-shirt, long pants, and backpack. According to the video surveillance the vandalisms occurred between 3am and 5am.

The Anderson Police Department is requesting residents in the Pinon Ave. and Bruce St. areas check their vehicles for damage and video surveillance. While each vehicle is only misdemeanor vandalism it is the goal of the Anderson Police Department to collect enough evidence to file felony vandalism charges.

Victims, witnesses, and/ or residents with relevant video surveillance are asked to contact Shascom dispatch at (530)245-6526 and reference Anderson Police case number 18-2168.
