WCPD arrests Vehicle Burglary suspect after pursuit, stolen property located in the suspect vehicle
DATE OF RELEASE: February 13, 2018
On Monday evening, February 12, 2018, several vehicle burglaries had been reported to the West Covina Police Department, occurring the parking lot of TGI Fridays Restaurant, 2655 Eastland Center Drive, West Covina. In one of the reported incidents, a description and license plate was provided by a witness.
At 2217 hours, a WCPD Officer checking the area located a maroon minivan leaving the parking lot of the Hooters Restaurant, 3041 East Garvey Avenue, West Covina, that matched the description and license plate of the suspect vehicle provided by a witness. When the officer attempted to stop the suspect vehicle, it failed to yield and a pursuit ensued. The suspect entered the westbound IS#10 Freeway and led officers to the city of Long Beach via the 605 and 91 freeways. The suspect vehicle exited Long Beach Boulevard where he yielded. The suspect was then taken into custody without further incident.
No one was injured throughout the incident.
Several items believed stolen from the burglarized vehicles were recovered from within the van.
Robert Eugene Kirkwood, 43 from Compton was arrested and transported to the West Covina Police Department. He was booked for and being held with No Bail for Felony evading a police officer and suspicion of burglary. In addition, the suspect was also booked for outstanding warrants; a no bail violation of post release probation and another $1,050,000.00 warrant for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Suspect Kirkwood is scheduled to appear at the West Covina Superior Court on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at 8:30 AM.
