UPDATED PHOTOS - Newark Firefighters Extinguish 3-Alarm Fire on Ridge Street and 2-Alarm Fire on Wilson Avenue

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose reports that some 85 members of the Newark Fire Division responded to a 3-alarm fire that displaced 15 people, including four children, at 141 Ridge Street today.

The fire began at approximately 1:22 a.m., at the 3-story unoccupied residential building. The fire escalated to a 3-alarm at 1:42 a.m. and extended to 137 Ridge Street, which is also a 3-story residential building that is occupied.

The fire was considered under control at 2:23 a.m. and no injuries were reported as a result of this incident.

NFD members also extinguished a 2-alarm fire at 20 Wilson Avenue at approximately 7:19 a.m. today. Firefighters observed smoke on the 2nd floor of this restaurant attached house. This fire was considered under control at 7:36 a.m. with no reported injuries or displacements.

The cause and nature of both fires is being investigated by members of the Newark Fire Division's Arson Unit.
