PRESS RELEASE
Neighborhood Watch Program to Host Annual Block Captain Meeting
Downey, CA, February 15, 2018: The Downey Police Department Neighborhood Watch Program is hosting its 6th Annual Neighborhood Watch Block Captain Meeting on Thursday, March 22, 2018, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The meeting will take place at the Barbara J. Riley Center, located at 7810 Quill Drive, Downey, CA 90242.
Downey Police Department will present a panel to discuss current concerns about the rise in homelessness within the City and surrounding sister cities. Residents will be informed of the initiatives the Department has taken, and will have an opportunity for a “Questions and Answers” period.
“Our City is very proud of what the Neighborhood Watch program has been able to accomplish since it was revitalized 10 years ago,” said Mayor Sean Ashton. “The program has not only helped create a more proactive and engaged community, but it has been instrumental in improving relations between City, Police, and residents.”
Following the presentation, Block Captains will have an opportunity to discuss specific concerns related to their neighborhoods.
“This meeting is a great opportunity for residents to connect directly with our Police Department and learn about any crime trends in our City,” said Mayor Pro Tem Rick Rodriguez. “Homelessness is affecting many local communities and I invite you to come learn about how our City is working hard to address this issue.”
