ROAD UPDATE **DO NOT BYPASS BARRICADES CLOSED ROADWAYS ARE UNSTABLE AND POSE COLLAPSE HAZARD**
We are still dealing with the rising waters, some have receded but crest is not expected until tomorrow. We should expect additional flooding for some time.
Current Road Issues.
1. Mason St. Calvin Center to Tharpe Lake is barricaded. Please DO NOT Bypass the barricade. If you live in the area and must traverse the roadway, the Eastbound lane near Calvin Center at the culvert is undermined, the road way will most like collapse. AVOID.
2. Mason Tharp Lake to Kessington is passable and open watch for shoulder washouts, and rough/uneven pavement.
Tharp Lake just south of Mason water is still flowing across roadway, please AVOID.
3. Wayne St. is open with some shoulder washouts near the creek east of Union Rd.
4. Union Rd. is open with shoulder damage, and debris on roadway.
5. Grange St. Water across road between Calvin Center and Tharp Lake, AVOID.
6. Starbrick is washed out from the creek at Tharp Lake to the top of the hill toward Calvin Center. Closed, Please Do NOT BYPASS THE BARRICADES.
7. Steele Rd. has 2 ft deep washouts across the lanes PLEASE AVOID.
Our Crews have been witnessing vehicles bypassing barricades and driving across unstable pavement on Mason St.
Mason St. From Kessington to Calvin Center should be considered impassible. Water is stilling running across the road in many places and the roadway has been undermined by flowing water. The appearance of stable roadway should NOT be considered when considering bypassing barricades!!
Cass County Sheriff Richard J. Behnke and the Cass County’s Office of Emergency Management are advising due to the recent heavy rain many roadways have water across them and some have started to wash away. Several roads have been closed. We are asking that all motoring public use extreme caution and never drive through water, turn around, don’t drown. Also remember, water across the road at night is almost impossible to see.
Instructions:
Use extreme caution and never drive through water, turn around, don’t drown.
Instructions:
PLEASE DO NOT BYPASS BARRICADES. ROADWAYS THAT ARE CLOSED ARE UNSTABLE AND HAVE POTENTIAL SINKHOLES BENEATH THEM. POTENTIAL COLLAPSE AND INJURY OR DEATH CAN RESULT!
Take alternate routes: DO NOT DRIVE THRU FLOOD WATERS!
Use extreme caution and never drive through water, turn around, don’t drown.
