FEBRUARY 22, 2018, CITY OF LIVONIA – EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY AND UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE, THE CITY OF LIVONIA IS UNDER A MANDATORY “BOIL WATER ADVISORY.” DO NOT DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST.

-Residents must bring all water to a boil for at least one minute and then let it cool before using.
-Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth, and preparing food until further notice.

This precautionary measure is being taken after a loss of water pressure was detected in the City of Livonia water distribution system due to Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) water supply transmission system issues that resulted in a series of water main breaks along Schoolcraft Road on February 22, 2018. Whenever a water system loses pressure for any signi cant length of time, precautionary measures are recommended since a loss of pressure can lead to bacterial contamination in the water system. Bacteria are generally not harmful and are common throughout our environment. Boiling water before using it will kill bacteria and other organisms that may be in the water.

Corrective measures are currently being undertaken to resolve the situation. THE BOIL WATER ADVISORY WILL REMAIN IN EFFECT UNTIL RESULTS FROM SAMPLING VERIFY THE WATER IS SAFE TO DRINK. CUSTOMERS WILL BE ADVISED WHEN THE BOIL WATER ADVISORY HAS BEEN LIFTED.
