During the week of February 20- 23, 2018, Rancho Mirage High School officials and police received reports of a threat at the high school. The threat came by word of mouth and a posting via a social media website. Once received, the school resource officer and police department staff immediately conducted an investigation to determine the validity of the possible threat, per Department protocol.

The protocol required a search of a student’s home, which revealed the student did not have the ability to carry out the threat. The investigation also revealed the photograph shown on social media was a year old and had already been investigated last school year.

The Rancho Mirage Police Department provides a School Resource Officer assigned to the high school during school hours and is working with school district officials to ensure the safety of students and staff.
