Advisory

Livonia boil water advisory remains in effect until 2nd test is concluded. First set of tests showed NO contamination.

FEBRUARY 24, 2018

FIRST SET OF WATER SAMPLE TESTS SHOW NO CONTAMINATION FOUND IN LIVONIA DRINKING WATER.

BOIL WATER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL THE RESULTS FROM A SECOND SET OF SAMPLE TESTS RETURN WITHOUT CONTAMINATION.

The Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA), the region’s water supplier, has notified the City of Livonia that their first round of water sample tests showed no bacterial contamination.

Tests were required after the loss of water pressure that was detected in the City of Livonia water distribution system due to Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) water supply transmission system issues that resulted in a series of water main breaks on February 22, 2018.

The required second round of water samples are being taken again Saturday morning to provide con rmation that no bacterial contamination exists.

Second round test results will be expected back from GLWA on Sunday.

AS A CONTINUING PRECAUTION, THE CITY OF LIVONIA IS MAINTAINING THE MANDATORY BOIL WATER ADVISORY until GLWA informs the City of the results from the second round of tests.

GLWA crews continue working at the site of the water main break on eastbound Schoolcraft east of MiddleBelt and the road is closed.

However, the eastbound ramp to I-96 at Middle Belt remains open.
Until the City lifts the mandatory boil water advisory, DO NOT DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST.
-Residents must bring all water to a boil for at least one minute and then let it cool before using.
-Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth, and preparing food until further notice.
-There are no restrictions on showering and washing clothes.

Once the boil water advisory is lifted, notification will also go out through local television networks, print media, radio stations, the City website, and the City of Livonia Facebook page, e-mail, and text alerts.

General guidelines on ways to lessen the risk of infection by microbes are available from the EPA Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1(800) 426-4791.
