The investigation into the Friday night police action shooting continues. The incident began as a traffic stop for a moving violation. The traffic stop was conducted in the 1600 block of Hicks Dr just after 8:00pm. Two officers were involved in the stop. Due to the uncooperative demeanor of the driver, one of the officers requested an additional officer to respond to the stop.
Before the additional officer arrived, one of the officers saw a handgun in the car. For officer safety reasons, the driver was told to exit the vehicle and began to do so. For unkown reasons, the driver armed himself with the gun as he exited.
One officer then discharged their service weapon, striking the driver. The driver died at the scene.
