Advisory

Deputies save man's life in Lomita with NARCAN.

Deputies Robinson and Navarro responded to a local park in the City of Lomita to a possible heroin overdose call for service. Deputies found a 49 year old male adult lying on the sidewalk with a needle next to his arm. The man was unresponsive and had labored breathing.

Both deputies were recently trained in administering a lifesaving drug called Naloxone, commonly known as NARCAN. The drug is administered in the form of a nasal spray and helps individuals who have overdosed on opioids to breathe properly.

Deputy Robinson immediately realized the patient was experiencing an opioid overdose. She acted quickly and administered the NARCAN nasal spray into the patient’s nostril. The patient began to breathe normally and was transported to the hospital.

In June 2017, Sheriff McDonnell began equipping field deputies with NARCAN in order to save citizens lives who are experiencing an opioid overdose. Deputies Robinson and Navarro used the tools provided to them by the Sheriff’s Department and without a doubt, saved the man’s life.
