Several police agencies in Johnson County have taken reports today of a scam caller identifying himself as Deputy Jerry Pickett with the Sheriff's Office. The scam being perpetrated is the jury duty scam. The caller will advise that you missed jury duty, and in order to stay out of jail you must go to a local business and pick up electronic vouchers, or similar request (pre-paid cards). A local judge was also mentioned in some of these calls. Do not fall victim to these scams. The police and courts will not call you to tell you that you are wanted on a warrant. You will never be asked to pay a fine over the phone to avoid jail time. We will never pre-warn anyone of a warrant. Keep your hard earned money. When in doubt call your family, or your local law enforcement agency for advice.
