I would like to address school safety due to recent events in Florida. The Wisconsin Dells Police Department continually trains, in a group and individual capacity, to engage active shooter threats. Prior to the shooting in Florida we had scheduled training at the Wisconsin Dells High school for this spring.

Every WDPD police cruiser contains a tactical rifle, ballistic shield, ballistic helmet, and external tactical body armor. Our officers are trained to use this equipment in tactical situations.

Our policy allows for an individual officer to engage an active shooter immediately. It is my expectation that every WDPD officer uses their training and experience when responding to such a threat. We will not stand by, waiting for back-up, while lives are in danger.

We are committed to keep the citizens of Wisconsin Dells safe. We know what we signed up for. We are here for you.
