Noblesville Police Department Seeks CALEA Re-accreditation
(Noblesville, Indiana) A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) will arrive March 4, 2018 to examine all aspects of the Noblesville Police Department. Areas to be examined include policy and procedures, management, operations, and support services. The Noblesville Police Department has to comply with 162 standards in order to gain re-accreditation status. Chief of Police Kevin Jowitt stated, “CALEA accreditation has served to demonstrate the agency’s on-going commitment to excellence and increasing public value through high quality service to our community.” “We look forward to re-accreditation with the Commission.”
As part of the on-site assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments at a public information session on Monday March 5, 2018 at 5:00pm. The session will be conducted at the Noblesville City Hall Room A213 located at 16 South 10th Street Noblesville IN.
Agency employees and members of the community are also invited to offer comments by calling (317) 770-5740 on Monday March 5, 2018 between the hours of 1:00pm and 3:00pm. Comments will be taken by the assessment team. Telephone comments, as well as appearances at the public information session, are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA standards. The assessment team is composed of law enforcement practitioners from similar but out-of-state agencies. The assessors will review written materials, interview individuals, observe procedures, and visit offices and places where compliance can be witnessed. The assessors are: Captain Jacqui Boykin of the Knightdale Police Department in Knightdale, North Carolina and Captain Paul Lindenschmidt of the Mason Police Department in Mason, Ohio. Once the commission’s assessors complete their review of the agency, they report back to the full commission, which will then decide if re-accreditation will be granted.
Chief Jowitt stated, “CALEA accreditation continues to provide value to the department by insuring strong internal review and accountability throughout our operational and administrative activities. The accreditation process allows the members of the Agency, as well as the members of the community, to be confident that the policies and procedures that guide the Noblesville Police Department are based on current, effective and equitable best practices in policing.” Accreditation is for a three year period, during which time the agency must submit annual reports attesting to the continued compliance with those standards under which it was initially accredited. This is the first re-accreditation process for the Noblesville Police Department.
