A Coastal Storm is expected tonight through Saturday Wind-Heavy Rain-Flooding Please monitor local media for updates
A major nor’easter will affect the region tonight through Saturday.
Precipitation will be moving into the area from the southwest late today, falling heavy at times through Friday before ending late Friday night. Rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches are expected, with locally higher amounts north of I-78.
Urban and poor-drainage flooding can be expected with the rain, followed by possible stream and river flooding into the weekend.
Winds will become northwest and increase rapidly Friday morning with speeds of 20 to 35 mph with gusts 50 to 65 mph through Friday evening before diminishing Friday night and Saturday. Downed trees and power lines are likely.
Rain will change over to snow in the Poconos and northwest NJ Friday morning with plow able snow expected. Changeover to snow may gradually spread southeast into the Lehigh Valley and northern New Jersey through the day into the evening before ending late Friday night. Strong winds will create severely reduced visibility at times in falling snow.
Minor to locally moderate coastal flooding is expected on the New Jersey coast during high tide Friday, with moderate to locally major flooding possible on the NJ/DE Atlantic coast and the coast of Delaware Bay Saturday. Beach erosion can also be expected Friday and Saturday.
