On Tuesday, February 27th, San Leandro Police Detectives arrested 32 yr-old Maxwell Littleton for committing an aggressive assault. 

On Monday, Feb 26th, Littleton and the victim in the case, an acquaintance of his, entered into a dispute. As a result, Littleton confronted the victim inside of a local grocery store and brandished a firearm while making verbal threats. 

Later, outside of the grocery store, Littleton approached the victim as he was walking and struck him with a large wooden stick.  The victim fell to the ground, and the suspect fled. The entire incident was caught on surveillance video which assisted investigators in the case. 

Fortunately, the victim only sustained minor injuries and was able to aid detectives with the investigation. The following day, Maxwell Littleton was located near his home in Oakland and was taken into custody by SLPD detectives.

Today, the case was presented to the Alameda County District Attorney for charging. After a review of the case, Littleton was charged with one count of Assault with a Deadly Weapon (including enhancement charges) and one count of brandishing a firearm. Littleton's probation status was also revoked. 

"The facts in the case provided ample grounds for charging. However, the video surveillance footage captured the pure intensity of the crime," said San Leandro Police Lt. Isaac Benabou. "Visual evidence is always a plus and incredibly invaluable to the prosecution."

Maxwell Littleton remains in custody at Alameda County's Santa Rita jail in Dublin awaiting further court appearances.
