"Overnight Shelter Being Made Available for Hunterdon County Residents - Sunday, March 4, 2018"

A shelter will open today at 5 p.m. located at the Riegel Ridge Community Center located at 910 Milford Warren Glen Road in Holland Township. Residents who relocate are reminded to bring necessary hygiene items and medications. Residents with Pets should also bring necessary pet care items such as leashes, pet medications and vaccination records. Today the Main Branch of the County Library will be open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. today. All County library branches will be open tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

ITEMS TO BRING TO THE SHELTER:
PLEASE PACK IN A SMALL BAG THOSE ITEMS YOU MAY NEED FROM THE LIST BELOW. SINCE SPACE IS LIMITED KEEP YOUR SUPPLIES TO A SMALL AMOUNT.
1. Identification
One form of identification – picture ID preferred
2. Clothing and Bedding:
One complete change of clothing including footwear. A pillow and blanket. Sleeping bag if you wish to place on top of the cot you will be assigned
3. Personal Items:
Washcloth, towel, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, sanitary napkins, paper towels, toilet paper, towelettes, etc.
4. Medications, First-Aid Supplies:
Medications--clearly marked with your name, dosage, type of medication, and prescribing physician. You must be able to take all medications by yourself. Any dressing changes if needed.
5. Food:
If necessary bring special dietary foods--such as diabetic, low salt, liquid diet, baby food and formula. Don’t forget a manual can opener. High energy foods such as granola bars, trail mix, and other snack foods may be a good idea if you get hungry in between meals.
6. Miscellaneous:
Bring a cell phone and charger if you have one. Games, cards, toys, a small flashlight (no candles or lanterns), or other reasonable items you may need are welcome too.
7. Not Allowed: alcoholic beverages, or weapons. Smoking is not allowed in the shelter

PETS
This is a pet friendly shelter where the pets are housed adjacent to the general population shelter. This type of sheltering enables the owner to care for their pet.

WHAT TO BRING FOR YOUR PET
1. Written proof of vaccinations from your veterinarian during the past 12 months.
2. Proper ID collar and up to date rabies tag.
3. Carrier or cage of sufficient size for the pet to stand, stretch and turn around.
4. A blanket or bed (that will fit in the cage) to keep your pet comfortable.
5. Leash and muzzle to help control your pet.
6. Ample food and water supply.
7. Food and water bowls.
8. Any necessary medications and copies of medical records.
9. Newspapers, kitty litter, plastic disposable gloves and trash bags for handling waste.
10. A litter box for cats.
11. A cover for cat and bird carriers/cages.
12. Your pets favorite toy

All items brought to the shelter must be clearly marked with the owners and pet’s identification including cage/carrier.
