K-9 Aero Assists In Combative Subjects Arrest
On March 6, 2018, at about 02:00 AM an Anderson Police Officer was on patrol in the area of Rhonda Rd. and Pleasant Hills Dr. when he observed Tony Perez, age 53, of Montgomery Creek, loitering around the rear of a bank in the area. The officer felt Perez’s behavior was suspicious due to the time of day and the close proximity of a 24-hour bank ATM.
The officer attempted to contact Perez to inquire about his activities, however Perez immediately became confrontational, shouting profanities at the officer. Perez displayed objective symptoms of alcohol intoxications and had the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from his person.
The officer attempted to detain Perez and identify him. Perez continued shouting profanities at the officer and refused to comply with the officer’s orders.
The officer and an additional backup officer arrived and attempted to detain Perez into handcuffs. Perez became combative and attempted to strike one of the officers. The officers continued to struggle with Perez.
K-9 Aero and his handler arrived on scene to assist the officers. K-9 Aero was deployed to apprehend Perez. K-9 Aero bit Perez in his left arm. Perez began striking K-9 Aero in his snout. Perez was eventually secured into handcuffs.
An ambulance responded to the scene and treated Perez for his injuries. Perez was then transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Once medically cleared Perez was transported to the Shasta County Jail where he was booked on the following charges: assault on a Peace Officer, assault on a Police Canine, loitering, and public intoxication.
K-9 Aero did not sustain any injuries from the confrontation.
