On March 6, 2018, at 3:59 p.m., Lake Elsinore Police Traffic Officers and CalFire responded to a reported traffic collision between a vehicle and a bicyclist at Railroad Canyon and Carnation Way, in the City of Lake Elsinore. Upon arriving, officers learned a Honda Civic traveling eastbound on Railroad Canyon collided broadside with a bicyclist traveling northbound within the intersection. The bicyclist, a 64 year-old Menifee man, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The driver of the Honda was not injured. The Traffic Reconstruction Team of the Lake Elsinore Police Department is conducting a full investigation to determine the cause of the collision. Alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be a contributing factor to the collision. The eastbound lanes of Railroad Canyon were closed for approximately four hours during the on-scene investigation.
