INCIDENT: Burglary, Possession of Stolen Property

LOCATION: Dairy Queen, 25635 Crucero Road, Ludlow

VICTIM: Confidential

SUSPECT: Martin, Joel; 31 years of age, of Albuquerque, New Mexico



SUMMARY:

On February 25, 2018, at approximately 8:25 pm, the victim exited the Dairy Queen and witnessed an unknown male smash a window on her vehicle. The male took her purse from the passenger seat and fled in a vehicle as she contacted Sheriff’s Dispatch. The vehicle was described as a brown pick-up truck with a white camper shell.

On February 26, 2018, at approximately 11:10 am, Deputy J Mamon found the truck parked near a local business in Newberry Springs. A records check determined the truck had been reported stolen out of Flagstaff, Arizona, but had a black camper shell at that time. Deputies from the Barstow Sheriff’s Station contacted the occupant of the vehicle, who was identified as Joel Martin. Deputy Mamon authored a search warrant for the vehicle and recovered the victim’s property along with multiple firearms, high capacity magazines and ammunition. One firearm was determined to be stolen and a tactical vest was taken for safekeeping, pending identification of its owner. Martin was placed under arrest and transported to the Barstow Jail for PC 459 Burglary; PC 496 Possession of Stolen Property; and PC 496D(A) Possession of a Stolen Vehicle.
