The Sausalito Police Department Wishes to Advise the Community of a Telephone Fraud Scheme
In an on-going effort to make the community aware of crimes of fraud, the Sausalito Police Department would like to advise the public of a telephone fraud scheme.
The scheme involves people receiving a phone call where the caller identifies themselves as an agent with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). They advise a warrant will be issued for your arrest if you do not immediately resolve your unpaid tax debts. The callers request that you purchase gift cards and give them the gift card numbers over the telephone to resolve these debts.
The IRS will never contact you via telephone to resolve your tax debts. You will be contacted in writing if there are discrepancies. Do not give your personal information to unsolicited callers. If you receive a call like this it is a scam.
