Winter Storm Update: We have been upgraded to a *** Winter Storm Warning ***

As we stated yesterday, these storms are expected to be very dangerous and damaging. Today it started as Snow, switched to Rain and is now causing a lot of slick spots on the road. This is storm #1. This WILL freeze tonight causing roads to be very dangerous. The snow is expected to return tomorrow. According to the NWS, travel will be very dangerous tomorrow. We encourage anyone who needs to get stuff done, to do it today or if possible reschedule it for after Thursday.

If possible secure any objects that may become flying or destructive objects during the storm. Protect your Property, secure any areas that maybe damaged from the other storms.

The Fire District has crews from the Career Staff and The New Egypt Volunteer Fire Company ready for the storms. EMS, as always, is staffed 24/7 with at least One Career Crew. Fire crews will be at the ready provided by both Career Crews & NEVFC Crews. We have been communicating with the Plumsted Twp. Police, Plumsted Twp. OEM, & Utilities. OEM will keep an eye on the status of the Twp. OEM will open other services as needed. We will be announcing those services via Nixle, when we can. We will all provide the best Emergency Services possible.

Make sure you have fuel (Vehicles, Generators, fireplaces, & other equipment). Batteries are fully charged, extra batteries are available. Keep a watchful eye to the Weather Service, Our Facebook Page, & Other news outlets.

...COASTAL FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 8 PM THIS EVENING TO 5 AM EDT THURSDAY...

* LOCATIONS...Coastal areas of Ocean County, southeastern Burlington County and Atlantic County.

* COASTAL FLOODING...Minor flooding is forecast with tonight`s high tide. Moderate flooding is expected with the high tides on Wednesday and Wednesday night.

* TIMING...Flooding may occur for a few hours around the time of high tide. High tide on the New Jersey oceanfront occurs between 10:15 PM and 11:15 PM tonight, between 10:30 AM and 11:30 AM on Wednesday, and between 11:00 PM and midnight on Wednesday night. High tide on the back bays occurs later than the high tide on the oceanfront.

* SURGE...Around 1.5 feet tonight, and around 2.5 to 3.0 feet on Wednesday and Wednesday night.

* WAVES...Around 12 to 18 feet off the coast tonight, around 10 to 15 feet on Wednesday, and around 6 to 10 feet on Wednesday night.

* IMPACTS...Numerous roadways will flood and minor to moderate property damage is possible. The tide and wave action is expected to result in moderate beach erosion.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

This Coastal Flood Warning means that moderate tidal flooding is imminent. Be prepared for rising water levels and take appropriate action to protect life and property. Follow the recommendations of local emergency management officials.

Do not drive your vehicle through flood waters. The water may be deeper than you think it is. You will be putting yourself in danger and your vehicle may be damaged, leading to costly repairs.

...Major Coastal Storm to Affect the Region Through Wednesday Night...

.A pair of low pressure systems today will consolidate into one major coastal storm late tonight and Wednesday. This is expected to bring significant impacts to our region, starting with areas of mixed precipitation today and tonight followed by significant snowfall on Wednesday. Unnecessary travel Wednesday afternoon and evening is strongly discouraged.

...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING TO 2 AM EDT THURSDAY...

* WHAT...Heavy mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches, with localized amounts up to 12 inches, are expected. In addition, north to northeast winds will gust 30 to 45 mph at times with potential for stronger gusts near the coast.

* WHERE...Portions of southern New Jersey, northeast Maryland and central and southern Delaware.

* WHEN...Precipitation will be generally rain today into this evening, though some mixing with sleet and freezing rain is possible, especially in central Delaware and inland portions of southern New Jersey. Precipitation will transition to snow late tonight and Wednesday morning, becoming heavy at times Wednesday afternoon and early evening. Snow will gradually taper off Wednesday night.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Plan on difficult travel conditions, especially on Wednesday. Be prepared for significant reductions in visibility at times. Power outages and tree damage may occur owing to the weight of the snow.
