**A State of Emergency has been declared by New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy due to the impending snow storm**

All non-essential Township employees will not report to work, and all town offices will remain Closed

Lyndhurst Schools will be Closed, Weds 3/21/18

Trash & Recycling will commence at 3:00 AM on Wednesday 3/21/18 for those on the Wednesday Routes.

If a State of Emergency is declared, we will advise through a similar message.

Once snow accumulations become plowable, be prepared for Snow Emergency Streets to be Enforced.

Winter Storm Warning

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning from midnight tonight until 8 AM Thursday morning.

Snow will move into the area overnight tonight and continue through Wednesday night. It will start off slow and possibly mix with rain. Heaviest snow starts mid-morning Wednesday morning and continues through Wednesday evening. Total snow accumulation is expected to be 4 - 8 inches with locally higher amounts of 10 - 12 inches possible. Snowfall rates of 1 – 2” inches per hour are possible in the heaviest snow bands.

Winds will be 15-20 MPH with gusts up to 30 MPH. This may cause blowing and drifting snow.

Temperatures will remain around 32 F.

Heavy wet snow may cause downed trees and power lines.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS: Residents should gather all necessary items before the snow begins to fall, and always have working flashlights and charged cell phones in the event of a power outage.

A Winter Storm Warning for snow means severe winter weather conditions will make travel very hazardous or impossible. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. Check local Department of Transportation information services for the latest road conditions.

Vehicles are not to be parked on school property.

Vehicles that are not removed can be issued summonses and/or towed away by the discretion of the Lyndhurst Police Department at the owner’s expense!

No shoveling/plowing/blowing of snow on to roadways.

Residents much shovel snow and ice from sidewalks within 48 hours of the end of a snow/ice storm. Lyndhurst Twp. Ordinance # 13-5.8a

Fire Hydrants abutting residences and businesses must be cleared of snow and ice by the property owner. Lyndhurst Twp. Ord. # 11-1.4a

Additionally, residents are reminded that in times of power loss not to use their ovens or any auxiliary heating unit which emits carbon monoxide. Such methods of auxiliary heating are also a serious fire hazard. Keep all generators in a well ventilated area. Do not utilize propane heaters indoors, and only use indoor space heaters with CAUTION. To report a power outage or find out information contact PSEG: 1-800-436-7734.

Help your elderly neighbors / family members with snow and ice removal, and keep a check on them periodically.

During freezing temperatures roadways will become icy, drive safely. If it is not completely necessary, avoid traveling on the roadways.

When outside dress in layers to prevent cold weather related injuries.

Bring animals indoors during storms & cold weather, if you are cold, so are they!
