Alexander Duran arrested for failing to register as a sex offender

DATE/TIME: March 20, 2018 2:17 pm

INCIDENT: Failure to Update Sexual Predator Registration

LOCATION: 23000 Block of Zuger Drive, Crestline

SUSPECT: Alexander Duran, 53-year-old transient of Crestline

SUMMARY:

On March 20, 2018, at approximately 2:17 pm Deputy Jonathan Cavender of the Twin Peaks Station Multiple Enforcement Team (MET) conducted a vehicle check in the 23000 block of Zuger Drive in the community of Crestline. During the vehicle check, Cavender contacted Alexander Duran, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle. Cavender conducted a records check of Duran and found he was a PC 290 sex registrant for a prior PC 288(c)(1), lewd and lascivious acts with a child under the age of 14 conviction from 2008. As a result of this conviction, Duran is required to register as a PC 290 sexual predator for life.

Through investigative leads, Cavender found Duran moved from the state of Kentucky on March 2, 2018 and has been living in Crestline since March 4. At no point, did Duran ever attempt to update his PC 290 sexual predator registration once he arrived in California. As a part of his PC 290 registration, Duran is required to register with the law enforcement agency within the jurisdiction in which he resides within 5 days of moving into California.

Duran was arrested for violation of PC 290.011(a), failure to update PC 290 registration. Duran was transported and booked into the Central Detention Center in San Bernardino and is currently being held in lieu of $25,000 bond.

The case will be submitted to the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s office for review.
