INDIANAPOLIS - In the Indianapolis area there is a Winter Storm Watch in effect through Saturday.  The National Weather Service is predicting that rain will start late Friday night and eventually will change to snow sometime between 1:00 AM and 3:00 AM and change to all snow after 3:00 AM.  There is a possibility of 3”-7” of snow by Saturday evening.  There could be sleet and freezing rain mixed in as well.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department would like to remind people that there may be ice on the roads underneath the snow and are recommending that people stay off of the roads if possible.  If you need to be out, drivers should take it slow on slick roads and be patient.  The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department recommends carrying blankets, a small shovel and a charged cell phone in case of trouble arising while traveling.

IMPD would also urge citizens to check on their neighbors, friends, family, and anyone else that may be vulnerable to extreme weather conditions.

We will continue to monitor the weather and will update everyone if there are any significant changes.
