The Internal Revenue Service is warning consumers about scammers posing as IRS representatives and claiming residents owe money to the IRS, or that certified letters were sent to taxpayer in the mail and were returned as undeliverable.

- Require you to pay your taxes a certain way.
- Ask for your credit or debit card information over the phone.
- Threaten to bring in police or other agencies to arrest you for not paying.
- Do not give out any information and HANG UP IMMEDIATELY!
- Report the scam to the IRS by calling 800-366-4484.
- Report to the Federal Trade Commission at FTC.gov. Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" in the notes.
