Trinity River expected to crest at 29.9 in Liberty, release remains at 73,500 cfs
Trinity River update :
The release at the Livingston Dam has remained at 73,500 cubic feet per second (cfs) all day as the lake level appears to be stable at approximately 1.8 feet above normal pool level.
We are optimistic that the rate will not increase over the current 73,500 cfs, however we will monitor and update as warranted. With no rain in the near forecast and the lake stabilizing, it is likely things will remain about the same over the next couple of days at the dam.
The Trinity River is currently at 34.57 feet in Romayor, with an anticipated rise to 40.2 feet , Liberty is reporting in at 23.33 with an anticipated rise to 29.9 tomorrow and Moss Bluff is currently at 9.4, with a rise to 15.4 by Sunday.
As previously indicated, these anticipated levels are similar to what we saw in the May 2015 flood event, and it should be noted the levels are well BELOW Hurricane Harvey levels by as much as two feet.
The expected levels noted will cut off roads into nearly all riverfront subdivisions along the Trinity River. Residents living in the flood plain area around the Trinity River should make certain they have their supplies if they intend to remain in their residences or make plans to stay with friends or relatives outside the flood plain until the water levels recede. Residents living along the Trinity that experienced water inside their homes during the May 2015 flood are likely to experience similar conditions with this event.
Those planning to leave should do so during daylight hours only and anyone coming to the area for Easter weekend should stay away from the river.
There are no open shelters at this time, however, we are communicating with the Red Cross to address any sheltering needs. The river will remain above flood stage at least a week or until we see a decrease in the discharge rate at the dam.
Bottom line is that right now we anticipate levels similar to the May 2015 flood, well below Hurricane Harvey levels, and no additional rainfall is anticipated over the next few days.
Updates to follow as warranted.
