Angels Camp Police K-9 Apprehends Felony Suspect
On 03/28/18, at approximately 9 PM, the Angels Camp Police Department K-9 Unit assisted the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office on a traffic stop. Deputies from CCSO stopped a vehicle for a traffic infraction near the intersection of S. Main Street and Monte Verda Street. The adult male passenger in the vehicle, who was wanted on an outstanding felony warrant, fled on foot from the stop. Deputies gave foot chase and lost sight of the suspect near the entrance to the cemetery next to the Angels Camp Police Department.
A track with the ACPD canine was started, and eventually led to the PD property on Monte Verda Street. The police department canine located the suspect, who was found hiding underneath one of the fire department vehicles on the property. The suspect ignored commands to surrender and a warning that the canine would be deployed for an apprehension.
Kenneth D. Carnes, a 39 year old Copperopolis resident was arrested and transported by CCSO deputies, to Mark Twain Hospital for a medical clearance prior to booking him into their jail .
