Modesto, CA –

On Sunday April 1st, 2018 at approximately 11:00 AM, first responders were called to an injury collision on N. 9th Street, north of Carver Rd. Once on scene, officers found 34 year-old Vanessa Julian of Modesto in the roadway. Emergency medical personnel began life saving measures as they rushed Julian to a nearby hospital. A short time later, officers were notified that the injuries Julian suffered were fatal.

The preliminary investigation indicates that Julian was pushing her bicycle across N. 9th Street outside of a crosswalk. A 2015 Hyundai Velostor, driven by 27 year old Louis Bowman of Modesto, was traveling N/B N. 9th Street and struck Julian as she was crossing the roadway. Bowman remained at the scene and was cooperating with investigators.

As a standard procedure, a comprehensive collision investigation has begun and is in the early stages. The cause of this collision has yet to be determined. Evidence still needs to be examined, and additional witnesses are being sought. At this time, neither drug or alcohol impairment appear to be a factor in the collision.
