Evansville man arrested for Aggravated Battery following deadly assault on 17 year old
Evansville Police have arrested 30 year old CORNELIUS COMPTON on Aggravated Battery charges following an assault that left a 17 year old dead.
Around 1:45pm on April 2, police were called to the 3900 block of Jackson Ave for a report of a person down. When officers arrived, they found an unconscious 17 year old Keyovante Wilson.
An officer checked Wilson for a pulse, but did not find one. Medical crews arrived and began CPR. Wilson was transported to a local hospital, but was pronounced deceased.
During the investigation into Wilson's death, police learned that COMPTON had been the victim of a burglary on April 1st. Police were also told that COMPTON had assaulted Wilson because he believed Wilson was involved in the burglary. The initial EPD officer who found Wilson saw COMPTON walking away from the scene as he arrived.
Police also received information that COMPTON had been at the home of another person he believed was involved in the burglary and told them he had already put Wilson in the hospital. The original burglary report filed by COMPTON did not list any suspects.
COMPTON is in the Vanderburgh County Jail on the listed charge. An autopsy was performed on Wilson last night. The results will be made available by the Coroner's Office when they are completed.
