Officers from the Norton Shores Police Department responded to the area of Sherman and Getty to assist the Muskegon Hts Police Department with a vehicle reported to be fleeing from an accident. Further investigation revealed the suspect vehicle exited out of a private drive on Sherman blvd onto Getty st. and struck a red truck and white van that were stopped for the traffic light. The vehicle fled east bound on Sherman at a high rate of speed rear ending a 2010 Dodge Journey at Sherman and Roberts. The driver of the Dodge Journey is a 42 yr old male from Muskegon who was transported to Hackley Hospital and is in stable condition. A Muskegon Hts Police officer witnessed the accident and immediately responded to provide aide. The suspect was driving a 2005 Chevy Malibu and was transported to Hackley hospital with minor injuries and was later released.
The suspect is a 31 yr old Spring Lake resident and is being lodged in the Muskegon County jail for a charge of Hit and Run causing injury, and driving on a suspended license. The Norton Shores Police Department is continuing to investigate the crashes and will provide further details when the investigation is completed.
The Norton Shores Police and Fire Departments were assisted at the scene by the Michigan State Police, Muskegon Hts Police, Muskegon Police, and Pro Med.
