Township of Fairfield
This is Mayor Jim Gasparini with a message from the Township of Fairfield. Recently the Township posted a message advising residents that we would be collecting branches and limbs that had fallen as a result of a winter storm. While the Township is under no obligation to do so, we felt it would be a positive gesture on our part.
Unfortunately, there have been many who have seen this as an opportunity to cut down trees, trim trees, remove shrubs, and do major landscaping improvements with the anticipation that the Township would bear the expense of its removal. The Township is the steward of public funds and only expends those funds appropriately. So I wish to be emphatic in stating THE TOWNSHIP WILL ONLY BE COLLECTING BRANCHES AND LIMBS CAUSED BY THE STORM AND NOT TREES, TRUNKS, AND ANY OTHER MAJOR BRANCHES SAWN OR REMOVED BY HOMEOWNERS OR ANYONE ELSE.
Accordingly anyone who has cut trees and other large limbs not felled by the storm will be responsible to remove this debris. Failure to do so will violate our property maintenance code and may result in a Municipal Summons.
Once again, it is unfair to ask all residents to pay for the personal landscaping of others and as such the Township will make the determination where those circumstances exist. We hope you appreciate our position and we appreciate your cooperation in this matter.
