A man is in custody after he resisted arrest and assaulted a Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office Deputy on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at approximately 4:00 PM in Edmore.
The incident began when the Deputy spotted the 36 year old Edmore man whom he had obtained a four count arrest warrant for during a previous investigation. As the Deputy attempted to take the man into custody, he resisted and assaulted the Deputy. The man escaped but was taken into custody approximately 1 ½ hours later.
The Deputy is a Sergeant and has been with the Sheriff’s Office for nine years. The Deputy was taken to Kelsey Hospital by Montcalm County Emergency Medical Services for treatment and was released.
The Edmore man did sustain minor injuries but did not require treatment.
In addition to the original charges on the arrest warrant, more charges are being sought through the prosecutor’s office.
Assisting were the Michigan State Police, Home Township Police Department, Stanton Police Department, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, and the Montcalm County Emergency Medical Services.
