DATE/TIME: Wednesday, April 4, 2018
INCIDENT: Vehicle Pursuit / Possession of Stolen Property
LOCATION: Central Avenue and State Highway 18, Apple Valley
SUSPECT: Dominic Bonilla, 20 years old, resident of Apple Valley
SUMMARY:
On Wednesday, April 4, 2018, Sergeant James Evans observed a Blue Honda motorcycle traveling at high speeds near Central and State Highway 18, in the town of Apple Valley. The motorcycle matched that of a Honda CVR600 recently stolen from an Apple Valley residence. Deputies Ernie Castodio and Ryan Grissom assisted and attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the motorcycle at Central and Hwy.18, however the rider, Dominic Bonilla, failed to yield and accelerated away at high speeds. Due to the extreme speeds the suspect was traveling, Evans requested assistance from Sheriff’s Aviation, which allowed pursuing deputies to follow in a safe manner. Bonilla proceeded to lead deputies on a 9 ½ mile pursuit before he lost control of the motorcycle and fled on foot through several residential properties. At one point, Bonilla entered an occupied family home to avoid arrest. Deputies were able to quickly apprehend him without further incident. No one was injured as a result of this incident.
Bonilla was charged with Possession of Stolen Property and Felony Failure to yield and was booked at the High Desert Detention Center.
