REVISED - EXTENDED RAMP CLOSURE 
CALTRANS TO BEGIN RAMP METER INSTALLATION AND 
ROADWAY IMPROVEMENT PROJECT ON STATE ROUTE 99 
IN SAN JOAQUIN/STANISLAUS COUNTIES

STOCKTON – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is preparing to begin a project to improve freight mobility, travel efficiency and safety elements for motorists on northbound and southbound State Route 99 (SR-99) through the cities of Ripon and Manteca in San Joaquin County and Modesto in Stanislaus County. No two consecutive ramps will be scheduled to close at the same time. 
Key features of this project include:
• Lowering northbound SR-99 under the Main Street overcrossing in Ripon to improve freight mobility and overhead clearance for commercial truck traffic
• Installation of on-ramp meters at Pelandale Avenue in Modesto to northbound SR-99
• Installation of on-ramp meters at Hammett Road in Modesto to northbound and southbound SR-99
• Installation of on-ramp meters at Main Street in Ripon to northbound and southbound SR-99
• Installation of on-ramp meters at Milgeo Avenue and Colony Road in Ripon to northbound SR-99
• Installation of on-ramp meters at Jack Tone Road in Ripon to northbound and southbound SR-99
• Installation of on-ramp meters at Yosemite Avenue (East) in Manteca to northbound and southbound SR-99 
• Installation of shoulder rumble-strips, maintenance vehicle pull-outs (MVP), guard rail and high-friction surface treatment 
• Installation of new landscaping and improved drainage systems
• Installation of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) elements such as; changeable message signs, closed circuit televisions and fiber-optics, and traffic management and weather information systems, which all contribute toward easing congestion and improving safety and efficiency for motorists

Weather permitting, work is scheduled to begin the first week of April 2018, with completion expected in January 2019. 
As part of this work, the on-ramp to northbound SR-99 at Main Street in Ripon will close beginning in May 2018 and will remain closed to traffic for approximately three months (August 2018.) NO FULL CLOSURE IS PLANNED FOR THE MAIN STREET OVER-CROSSING. Detour information is as follows:
To access Northbound SR-99 from Main Street:
• Take Frontage Road north
• Turn Right on Acacia Avenue
• Turn Left on Milgeo Avenue
• Take Northbound on-ramp at Milgeo Avenue

This $24.5 million project has been awarded to Bay Cities Paving & Grading, Inc., of Concord, CA.

Work will occur during the day and night and motorists can expect up to 15 minute delays. Alternate routes should be taken whenever possible.

While this project is not funded by Senate Bill 1 (SB 1), due to the passage of SB 1 more projects like this one are under way and in the works across the state to improve roadways. Work is scheduled to begin as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic, weather, equipment, materials or construction-related issues.
