SIMI VALLEY POLICE DEPARTMENT CELEBRATES NATIONAL PUBLIC SAFETY TELECOMMUNICATORS WEEK

The Simi Valley Police Department joins Public Safety Communications Centers across the nation in celebrating the week of April 8-14, 2018, as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week. This week is sponsored by the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International. This annual event is an opportunity to honor the thousands of men and women who are the voices behind the scenes and who respond to emergency calls, dispatch emergency professionals and equipment, and render life-saving assistance to citizens in need.

The Simi Valley Police Department Communications Bureau staff was honored with a proclamation recognizing National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week at the City Council meeting on April 9, 2018. Dispatch Shift Leader Stacy Miller received the proclamation on behalf of the Police Department.

The Communications Bureau is a critical component at the Simi Valley Police Department with civilian employees working 24-hours a day, 7-days a week. This highly trained team is always ready to assist the community when they call for emergency help. The Simi Valley Police Department’s dispatchers processed over 121,000 telephone calls in 2017, and of those over 33,000 were received on 9-1-1. In addition, they dispatched over 40,000 calls for police services in the community.

During this week of celebration, it is our pleasure to announce that Dispatch Shift Leader Stacy Miller is the Simi Valley Police Department’s 2018 Public Safety Dispatcher of the Year. Stacy has been a full-time employee with the Police Department for over twenty years. She was selected for her overall high standard of performance, superior dedication and the positive attitude that she displays throughout the year. Stacy will be recognized for her accomplishment at the Police Community Partnership Awards Dinner hosted at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in May 2018.

It is often said that Dispatchers are the voices behind the scenes and the unsung heroes that send help to people in need. Dispatchers are some of the most important people that you will never meet. Please join the Police Department in celebrating National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week.
