Attention Rutgers Community:
The Rutgers University Police Department (RUPD) is investigating a robbery which was reported to have occurred on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at approximately 12:30 PM in front of 617 George Street (Campbell Hall) in the city of New Brunswick.
In this incident the victim, who is affiliated with Rutgers University, reported that he was walking in the area of Campbell Hall when a vehicle, described as a dark colored Toyota Highlander, pulled up next to him and the driver requested money for gas. As the victim retrieved cash from his wallet he observed a handgun on the lap of the driver who then told him to get into the vehicle, which was also occupied by an adult female and two young girls in the backseat. The victim then got into the vehicle and was subsequently driven to a bank located at 112 Somerset Street. The victim exited the vehicle, walked into the bank alone where he withdrew cash, and then walked back to the waiting vehicle where he turned over the withdrawn cash. The perpetrator then drove the victim back to the area of Campbell Hall and left in a direction away from campus. The victim was not physically injured in this incident.
The perpetrator is described as a middle-eastern male, approximately 40 years of age, having a full black beard, short black hair, and wearing a short sleeved t-shirt with khaki pants. The perpetrator was accompanied by a female wearing a purple dress and head covering as well as two girls, approximately three to four years old years old.
The Rutgers Police Department asks that anyone with information, or who may have been in the area at the time, to contact the Rutgers Police Department Detective Bureau at 848-932-8025.

• Immediately reporting suspicious activity to local law enforcement;
• Remaining alert and aware of the people and circumstances around you;
• Avoid isolated or dark areas;
• Walking in groups when traveling during late night hours
