Attention Rutgers Community:

The Rutgers University Police Department issued a crime alert on April 10, 2018, in reference to an affiliated victim, who reported being robbed at approximately 1230 PM following an interaction with an unknown male in the area of Campbell Hall 617 George Street in the city of New Brunswick. Subsequent investigation has revealed that this incident is unfounded and did not occur as originally reported. The amended account of the incident was described as a consensual interaction between the victim and the unknown male. The interaction did not include the observation of a weapon and ultimately resulted in a theft by deception. The investigation into this incident is ongoing and the Rutgers Police Department would like to thank those members of the community who have contacted us in order to provide information.

The perpetrator is described as a middle-eastern male, approximately 40 years of age, having a full black beard, short black hair, and wearing a short sleeved t-shirt with khaki pants. The perpetrator was accompanied by a female wearing a purple dress and head covering as well as two girls, approximately three to four years old years old.

The Rutgers Police Department asks that anyone with information, or who may have been in the area at the time, to contact the Rutgers Police Department Detective Bureau at 848-932-8025.

The Rutgers University Police Department reminds you that you can reduce your chances of being a victim of crime by taking reasonable precautions, including:

• Immediately reporting suspicious activity to local law enforcement;
• Remaining alert and aware of the people and circumstances around you;
• Avoid isolated or dark areas;
• Walking in groups when traveling during late night hours

The escorts provide our community with personalized service to their vehicles, campus residence, or the University's mass transit system.
