(Ogden Dunes, IN) Today, Friday, April 13, 2018 Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore Fire Management staff in cooperation with Ogden Dunes Volunteer Fire Department plan to conduct a 151-acre Prescribed Fire along the eastern perimeter of the Town of Ogden Dunes, weather permitting.

The area to be burned is east of Hillcrest Road, north of Norfolk Southern Railway corridor, behind the Ogden Dunes Fire/Street Department complexes, along Boat Club Road, south of Bittersweet Park (south of Bittersweet Lane) in Suerenity Park (east of Aspen Road and south of Skyline Drive) and within Portage Lakefront Park & Riverwalk. Management ignition of the fire is projected to occur later this morning; subject to meeting the established prescription for the burn.

Benefits from this Prescribed Fire include habitat maintenance/restoration, minimization of fuel loads to reduce threat and severity wildfires which may endanger people and homes in the Town of Ogden Dunes.
