On Saturday, April 14, 2018, the Sausalito Police Department received several calls for service regarding automobile burglaries and thefts from vehicles. Officers are still actively investigating these cases, however preliminary investigation reveals that these thefts appear to have happened during the early morning hours of April 14th at various locations within the City. The majority of the vehicles targeted were unlocked. In many cases property had been left inside the vehicles and was visible from outside. The suspects ransacked the vehicles and stole items of value that could be removed quickly.

These types of crimes are often crimes of opportunity and can be drastically reduced by community members practicing simple crime prevention methods such as:

• Remove all valuables from your vehicle
• Do not leave items in parts of your vehicle that are visible from the outside
• Close/lock your vehicle’s doors
• Roll up your vehicle’s windows

The Sausalito Police Department is asking for the community’s help in solving and preventing similar crimes. Please report any crimes regarding your vehicle to the police department as well as suspicious incidents, persons, or vehicles that you see in your neighborhoods. Please remember, if you see something, say something.

If you have a security camera system at your home or business in Sausalito and wish to assist in preventing crime within the community, please consider participating in the Sausalito Police Department’s Citizen’s View Program. If you choose to participate in the Citizen’s View Program, you will only be contacted by the Sausalito Police Department if there is a criminal incident in the vicinity of your security camera. If anyone in the community has information about the thefts or notices anything that looks suspicious, they are encouraged to call the police department at 289-4170, or dial 911 for emergencies and crimes in progress.
