Suspect in Custody after Threats

 
In the evening of April 16, 2018, the Cloquet Police Department received multiple reports of a threat of violence on social media. The threat of committing a “mass homicide” did not list a specific location, other than Cloquet.
 
Officers immediately began an investigation and searched for the suspect based on the information that was being gathered.
 
In the early morning hours of April 17, 2018, Officers from the Fond du Lac and Cloquet Police Departments and the Carlton County Sheriff's Office located the suspect in a home on the Fond du Lac Reservation, just outside the city of Cloquet. After a brief confrontation with the residents in the house, the suspect, an 18-year-old male, was taken into custody.
 
Officers did not locate any weapons with the suspect when he was arrested.
 
Based on the suspect’s age and the ages of the reporters, our area schools took precautionary measures to secure access in and out of the schools until the suspect was located. Once the suspect was found, the schools were given the "all clear" notification. This decision was made in cooperation with the Cloquet School District and the Cloquet Police Department, even though no direct threats were made to the school(s) or any specific individuals.
 
Police are also aware of the misinformation that has been shared around social media regarding this incident and the suspect. The Cloquet Police Department worked as quickly and diligently as possible in this case while still ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the data, in order not to jeopardize the investigation or identify any innocent parties.
