UPDATE: Homicide Suspect Arrested

UPDATE 4/24/2018

On April 19th, 2018, the Bay Area OCS-Fugitive Apprehension Team/United States Marshals Service was conducting surveillance at an apartment complex located on the 5800 block Charlotte Drive, in San Jose. Agents identified Jay Vasquez at the location and watched as he entered a vehicle and drove away.
 
Members of the Bay Area OCS-Fugitive Apprehension Team conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and arrested Mr. Vasquez without incident.  
 
Incident to the arrest, a search warrant for an apartment associated to Mr. Vasquez was served on the 5800 block Charlotte Drive. Evidence related to the investigation was recovered. 
 
Mr. Vasquez was transported to the Santa Clara County Jail where he was booked for his $10,000,000 homicide warrant. 



UPDATE 12/07/2017:

Jay Robert Vasquez (age 20) has been identified as the suspect in this homicide investigation (see attached photograph). A warrant has been issued for his arrest. Vasquez should be considered armed and dangerous. His whereabouts are currently unknown.

The victim has been identified as 32-year-old Gilroy resident, Jason Contreras.

This crime is being investigated as gang related. The Investigations Bureau is asking anyone who may have information about Vasquez' whereabouts to call the Gilroy Police Department at (408) 846-0350 or Detective Eric Cryar at (408) 846-0335. Callers may remain anonymous.


ORIGINAL RELEASE:

On November 29, 2017, at 4:34 p.m., officers from the Gilroy Police Department responded to a report of a shooting on the 7500 block of Alexander Street. When officers arrived, they located a 32-year-old male victim outside a residence with multiple gunshot wounds. Witnesses stated he was in a verbal altercation with another male subject moments before the shooting.
 
Emergency personnel performed life-saving measures but he was ultimately pronounced deceased at the scene. The name of the deceased victim is being withheld until proper notification can be made to family members.
 
This is an active and ongoing investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes appropriate. This is the 1st homicide in the City of Gilroy this year.
 
The Investigations Bureau is asking anyone who may have seen the shooting or has any knowledge of the shooting to call Detective Eric Cryar at (408) 846-0335. Callers may remain anonymous.
