On 04/25/2018 just before 5:00 pm, Steuben County Sheriff’s deputies were summoned to a residence on Jimmerson Lake Lane 415A in the Buena Vista area located in Steuben County’s rural Jamestown Township, for a report of an unwanted subject inside the residence. Deputies were already in the area investigating another complaint and responded quickly. Upon initial investigation by responding deputies, it was discovered that a man allegedly entered the residence uninvited through a window and was confronted by the homeowner. The man then left the residence and was shortly apprehended in the area. The alleged perpetrator was identified as 28 year old Dustin Allen Coleman of rural Fremont. Coleman was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Steuben County Jail on one count of level 6 felony residential entry. The Sheriff’s Office has been investigating a rash of residential burglaries in the Buena Vista area that have occurred since February of 2018. Sheriff’s detectives were called to assist and through investigative efforts located evidence linking Coleman to at least one of those alleged burglaries. Coleman was additionally charged with level 4 felony residential burglary and he remains held in the Steuben County Jail in lieu of a $13,000.00 bond. The cases still remain under investigation and additional suspects and charges may be sought.
