On Thursday, April 26, 2018, at about 3:40 p.m. Newman Police Department officers were dispatched to a residence in the 600 Block of Orestimba Peak Drive in Newman, CA for a caller stating she had stabbed a family member. When Newman PD officers arrived at the residence, they found a woman with a stab wound to her upper body, and she was pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency services personnel. The victim has been identified as 37-year-old Maegan Christine Murray of Newman. They also found 28-year-old Mary Murray in the home, and she was detained at the scene.
While Newman Police Department was responding to the residence, Stanislaus County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to Crows Landing Road and Highway 33 in Crows Landing, CA for a man who had been stabbed. The victim was transported to a local area hospital where he was treated for his injuries and is expected to survive. The victims name will not be released due to confidentiality.
As Sheriff’s deputies began their investigation, they learned the man was related to the initial 911 call in Newman, CA. Newman PD requested the assistance of Sheriff's Office detectives to conduct the homicide investigation. Detectives worked throughout the night processing the crime scene and interviewing witnesses. Mary Murray was arrested for homicide, attempted homicide and domestic violence. Detectives are not releasing any further details at this time.
