Resident's surveillance camera and alert officer help nab suspected burglar.
A home camera system and an alert officer are credited with the capture of an early morning burglary suspect in Folsom on May 13, 2018. Police responded to the area of Seaton Drive and Amhurst Court in Folsom at 6:35am, after a 911 call of a white male who had been in residents' backyards and had tried to enter a residence, but was scared away by the homeowner. Numerous officers searched, but could not find the suspect in the area.
As officers followed up, they found home surveillance video of the suspect, and disseminated it to all officers. At 8:14am, an alert officer noticed Cody Udell Fagg, 20 years old, from Elko Nevada, walking in the area of Glenn Drive and Sibley Street. He recognized Fagg from the surveillance video and detained him. Fagg was determined to be the subject the resident saw, and was arrested for attempted burglary. The investigation is continuing and officers are checking to see if Fagg tried to break into any other homes. A photo of Fagg is attached.
This capture was possible because officers were able to quickly get video images from a homeowner. The Folsom Police Department has a program to register home surveillance systems, so officers know who to ask when a crime is committed in a neighborhood. Participation in the program is voluntary.
