Over the past several days, Beaufort County residents have reported receiving telephone calls from subjects impersonating a law enforcement officers. The callers identify themselves as Beaufort County Sheriff's Office deputies and demand their prospective victims make immediate payment of fines—missing jury duty—to avoid arrest or other legal action. This is a scam, please be assured that no member of the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office will ever ask you for payment of a fine over the telephone in lieu of arrest.  

If you receive a suspicious call like this, our advice is to simply hang up the telephone.
